Singapore IT Energy Efficiency Standard for Data
Singapore has launched a new standard to support data centre operators and users to deploy energy efficient IT equipment, making us one of
It is estimated that the total electrical energy usage of data centres in Singapore for the year 2010 is 3.6% of Singapore's total electrical energy consumption. This is a significant percentage of the country's total consumption and will continue to increase over the coming years.
In a typical data centre, IT equipment accounts for around 60% of total energy use. The energy consumed by data centres is expected to increase further with the growing use of Artificial Intelligence, where the IT compute energy consumption is more intensive.
Data centres that adopt Singapore's Tropical Data Centre standard (SS697:2023) to operate at higher temperatures can potentially benefit from a further 2% to 5% energy saving on the cooling systems, with every 1°C increase in the data centre operating temperature.
Data centres form the backbone of Singapore's digital economy, enabling innovation and growth across industries. However, IT equipment within data centres typically accounts for around 60% of total energy use, a figure expected to rise further with the increasing adoption of artificial intelligence and compute-intensive workloads.
