Battery storage in the energy transition | UBS Iceland
Deploying BESS projects in areas with high renewable capacity, but that also experience high curtailment, allows developers to provide a tool that more efficiently captures and distributes that

Grids can affect the business potential of a BESS project in several ways. For new BESS projects, grid congestion indicates a need for flexibility within the system but also poses a risk of delays and/or smaller grid connection capacity.
BESS capacity is expected to grow significantly in each country. This growth is partly due to the increasing share of intermittent electricity sources, but market and regulatory conditions also play a critical role.
Additionally, the beneficial effect of BESS on controllable RES integration and the importance of Energy Flexibility through Demand Side Management (DSM) is also extensively discussed, along with the BESS operation within the DSM framework.
