Germany picks 587 MW of solar-plus-storage projects in tender
Germany''s Federal Network Agency has selected 587 MW of combined solar and storage projects in an oversubscribed innovation tender, while no awards were made in the latest
Image: Baywa r.e. The German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) has awarded 587MW of solar-plus-storage in its latest Innovation Tender. As has been the case in many of Germany's recent solar PV auctions, the Innovation Tender ended up oversubscribed, with 154 bids made for 1.8GW of capacity out of 583MW tendered capacity.
Germany's Innovation Tenders are cornerstones of Germany's energy transition as they serve to incentivise efficient integration of intermittent renewable energy set to enter the German power market.
Germany's innovation tender is at a crossroads. While solar auctions are booming in Germany, their restrictive design has led to lower volumes of co-located solar and storage projects, limiting their economic benefit.
Through the innovation tenders, it plans to award contracts for up to 4 GWh to developers of distributed energy storage systems by 2028. The current energy crisis brought the need for smart integration of renewables into renewed focus with the build-out of green generation booming in Germany.
