Loading. Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, has secured approval from the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) to install a 100MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) across Mumbai.
It will protect essential services including the Mumbai Metro, hospitals, airports, and data centers from large-scale blackouts. The system is also designed to optimize reactive power management, improve peak demand efficiency, and reinforce the city's overall electricity infrastructure.
With real-time monitoring from Tata Power 's Power System Control Center (PSCC), the BESS will strengthen Mumbai's grid resilience, support clean energy adoption, and fulfill energy storage obligations. The project underscores Tata Power's commitment to sustainable, future-ready power solutions.
The undertaking shall be implemented across 10 strategically positioned locations in Mumbai during the forthcoming two-year period, Tata Power disclosed in an exchange notification.
