In September 2022, LG Electronics launched the Home 8 residential energy storage system, an AC-coupled battery with a built-in inverter. LG's home batteries provide all the standard advantages of solar batteries, including backup protection against grid outages, time-of-use load-shifting, and greater energy independence.
Contains the battery modules, battery inverter and communication system. The inverter converts DC electricity from the battery into AC electricity for your home. It sits on top of the battery modules in the battery cabinet. There are four small battery modules that store energy.
The battery cabinet is the larger of the two "boxes" and houses the battery modules and inverter. Then there's the Smart Energy Box, which acts as a sort of power management system, monitoring energy consumption, solar generation and grid power status. "The intelligence is in the smart energy box," Brown said.
